Sarah Bowman Price, the daughter and only child of Jacob Bowman, who hired Joseph Price as a likely son-in-law. The Bowmans were an influential family in the Caroll Co. Md. area, and still are, to this day. Many of the Price family lived there, alternately with the Black Rock PA settlement that's barely 30 miles from there.

   children: Mary Ellen, Theodore B., Joseph Jackson, Sarah Elizabeth, Susanna, Emma, Jacob R., Lydia Amy, Amanda Jane and George Washington.

Jacob Bowman, being quite well-to-do, insisted that Sarah wear a silk wedding dress, she resisted but he had one made anyway. After the wedding it was turned inside out and hung on the bedroom wall till she died. Then it was ripped to pieces and each of her daughters kept a portion. Jacob Bowman was continually perturbed that Joseph and Sarah had 10 children.
