Harold Thorton Wiley

B. March 23, 1890          D.June 20,1966

Harold Wiley was a scholar, a teacher, a farmer who worked in hybridizing corn, an active school and town board member and one of the kindest, gentlest persons ever born. He had a great sense of humor as well, and was a backbone of his church.  He came to the Switzer Farm as the husband of Erma, and stayed to manage the farm and raise his family there. He was as honest and trusting a person as ever

lived, and when he showed his research work on corn hybrids to Lester Pfister, that was the beginning of the Pfister Hybrid Seed Corn business. He was always more than ready to share knowledge, whether in his best interest or not.

He sent his daughter Joyce and eldest sons to Blackburn College, even though money was always in short supply, but he prized education above all other pursuits. His life was a lesson in how an ethical life should be lived.

Married Erma Gem Switzer April 4, 1915
