While president of the Historical Society, Joyce also spearheaded the effort to reprint the 1857 Woodford Co. History. She also was of great help when her son Les led the same group in the effort to reprint the historic Woodford Co. Atlases into one combined Atlas, for research purposes.  She loved books and her personal collection filled one whole room (the Red Room Library) and great portions of other rooms in her home.

Joyce inherited her families love for the arts. Her mother Erma was an avid photographer, and she followed this interest, producing huge numbers of photoalbums, and 8 mm. movie films of her family. Her grandmother Martha Jane Switzer was talented in Scherenschnitte, and her mother Erma was a very talented painter.  Joyce produced many posters, drawings and paintings, her favorite artist was Grant Wood. She fashioned cutout outdoor scenes, of Disney characters, and also nativity.  She made papier-mache heads of Disney Characters and joined with her grandchildren in parades in the area displaying them.  That was as much fun for her as for her grandchildren. (possibly more)  Below are examples of her artwork.

Joyce also spent many hours doing architectural drawings of her house.  Those resulted in on addition to the living room being built, and later a beautiful sun room added to the entry way.  These were all planned for years on paper, before being carried out in reality.
