William Wiley
B. Oct.25, 1865 D.Feb. 9, 1940
Studies are still underway on William Wiley, he is a hard individual to identify. From family histories we know that he came to Illinois from Indiana or Ohio, but had been born and raised in younger years on an Indian Reservation in Oklahoma. The author has tracked down through the help of John Haikey, the Wiley family on the Creek Reservation in OK and they had records of a |
William that seemed to roughly fit timewise. That Wiley family on the reservation had been early members of the Christian movement on the Res. and had worshipped in the mixture of Christian and Native beliefs that is practiced by the congregation that centers in the Haikey Chapel. It is very likely that William came from this group. |

William (Bill) Wiley had the reputation of being a hard man to get along with. The author remembers very well that the few times that he heard disagreements between his grandparents, Erma and Harold Wiley, that if Harold was being disagreeable, Erma only had to call him "Bill Wiley". That usually brought Grandpa to shame and he would straighten right up. =) |
