Jeremiah Brumbauch Tawzer
B. March 12, 1826 D. October 14,1892
Jeremiah said his middle name was "Boombaugh". This is a direct link to his maternal grandfather's name as its usage changed. Originally that name was Bumbach or Bumbaugh. Jeremiah is the author's favorite ancestor. He was an artist, a songwriter, an alchemist, a Braucheri/Powwow healer, and a devout member of the Brethren/Dunkard church. His copybook is a treasure of early 1800 vignettes, he recorded that he just got news that Davy Crockett was killed at the Alamo! |
He brought his family (including his aged father) to Illinois by covered wagon in 1856. He brought with him over $1500. in gold, originally as a bankroll in buying into the Toby Anderson Plow Works in Peoria, IL. He decided on arriving to invest in land instead. Presumably because the land here impressed him more the the Plow Company. |
Married Barbara Thomas, the grand-daughter of the superintendant of Pine Grove Furnace and Iron Works, where he worked.
