Original Songs Many of these songs were written for the presidential campaign of William Henry Harrison. The wagonner's song takes a traditional ballad form and converts it to a protest against the railroads, as many in JBT's family were in the wagonner's trade. The Christmas song is listed as written with a friend, William Roff, on a winter night, 1852. This seems to be one of his last songs of which we have record.
